I understand to a degree what you are saying, but I don't see a significant difference from option 3:

The third chose to do good works because of a considered decision that it was the right thing to do.

You just seem to feel a need for faith to assist your decision making. On the other hand, I and most other non-believers manage to determine what is the right thing to do without the need to resort to religious faith.
